Kew Gardens Tree

Machine Shop installed this tree sculpture in Kew Gardens at the beginning to 2009 in time for the Tropical Extravaganza.

Made from a stainless steel frame coated with hand-sculpted polystyrene and concrete, the tree was built and installed in little more than a week to replace a real tree that had rotted away. The sculpted tree now provides a permanent growing platform for many plant species that utilise the rough texture of it’s bark as anchorage for their root systems.
